Another Friday is upon us ladies! While you prepare for a weekend of errands, family activities or possibly a quick road trip, here’s a casual but stylish ensemble to keep looking cool and feeling comfortable while you’re out and about. I know for myself personally, I try to keep it cute as possible even on days where my schedule is filled with unglamorous trips to everywhere from Cosco to the car wash. On days like this it’s most important to have a good flat shoe (I especially love loafers) and a decent sized bag to throw everything in – the rest of the outfit is easily “build-able” from there. As always, you know I’m all about pops of color – it can certainly help to brighten the mood when the entire day is filled with not so fun trips around town.

Motherhood is certainly a beautiful thing, but I definitely feel robbed of my sexy. You know what I mean? On a day to day I’m home wearing tank tops with spit up all over it and more than likely a pair of my husbands basketball shorts – not cute. If my cousin wasn’t gracious enough to braid my hair for me, my afro would be looking like God knows what! I really do try to put myself together when I leave the house though, even putting on a full face of make up for doctors appointments – just to make myself feel good. More importantly to look like a fully functioning human being. Funny enough, yesterday Chanell (who had her little one two days before me) emailed me this hilarious link about things that happen to you after giving birth that no one tells you. I sent it over to another friend who is about to have her first baby and now she’s terrified, lol. In any case though, the floppy belly and horrid stretch marks were totally worth it! My son is everything! While I work on fixing those physical issues, I’m just going to continue to play “Gone With The Wind Fabulous” in my head on a daily basis and continue to twirl in hopes of distracting on lookers from my belly…and wear Spanx sometimes…
You ladies know that I live for special occasions and throwing fabulous parties to celebrate (I’d love to re-live my baby shower again fyi)! The next few weeks are all about preparation for Grey’s upcoming Dedication, and you know I’m going all out to celebrate per usual. While I’m of course gathering all the decor and working on finally sending out the e-vites, mama’s outfit has to be on point as well. Although my wardrobe is not very trendy, now that I’m not pregnant anymore, I’m looking forward to finally trying out the peplum style. I just love this sophisticated yet fun coral waffle peplum number from Dorothy Perkins! I love a statement necklace as well and this Bib Necklace by Stella & Dot is perfection. Finally, this ankle strap sandal from Zara ties this look together by incorporating hues from both the dress and the necklace. Zara just always know how to give a good shoe. While we’re discussing an outfit for yet another party that I’m obsessively planning, you ladies need to check out Southern Vogue’s blog – she has me beat when it comes to party planning and decor.
This past weekend, South Florida natural hair group Naturals In The Sun hosted their first meet-up of the year which couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I’ve been craving some adult conversation and there’s nothing I love chatting and learning about more than hair. This meet-up was more of an intimate gathering as opposed to their 1st Anniversary Meet-Up (and future events) but was just as informative and interesting. The creator of Kishya Essentials effortlessly demonstrated various ways of wearing head wraps and lead a information session on being natural from the inside out. My 12 year old sister has been going back and forth on whether or not to go natural, but after this event she’s fired up and even spent some of her money on a head wrap, lol. I’m glad that I was able to expose my little sister to such a supportive group of women, catch up with friends that I’ve been hanging out with at past meet-ups and connect with new women.

Thank you to Naturals In The Sun for working so hard to organize these events and for creating a positive space to be ourselves. Can’t wait to see all the things you have in store for 2013 !!!
My this dress looks and feels much different on me than the last time I wore it. Over the weekend the Husband and I had our first date since becoming parents 4 weeks ago. It was nothing fancy, just a quick trip to a restaurant down the street but the alone time with my guy was much needed.
